How do you pick the right family before you pick a title?

Start with who will own the outcome and where the person sits in the life of the building. Construction and trade families deliver a facility, commissioning families prove it works, operations families keep it running, and vendor, commercial and corporate families support all three. Choose the family first, then the title inside it.

Many searches go wrong at this first step. A hiring manager asks for an electrical engineer when the work is really energization coordination on a live build, which sits with trade leadership, not design. Another asks for a technician when the person will hold switching authority on a live site, which belongs in critical facilities operations. The family tells candidates which world the job lives in, and experienced people read that signal before they read anything else.

If a role straddles two families, pick the one that matches the decisions the person will make alone. A controls engineer who mostly proves sequences during testing belongs closer to commissioning; one who owns the BMS after handover belongs with controls and automation. That choice changes who we approach and how we describe the role.

Why are frontline families listed separately from leadership families?

Because the hiring problem is different. Frontline families such as technicians, craft, security and site services usually need people in volume, often on shifts, with clear entry points and levels. Leadership and engineering families usually need one specific person whose judgment carries risk. Separating them keeps titles, levels and pay expectations honest.

A night shift data center technician and a data center operations supervisor share a building, but they answer different questions in an interview. The first is about reliability, safety habits and willingness to work the rotation. The second is about running people, schedules and escalation. Listing them together tends to blur the level, and candidates notice when a posting asks for supervisor judgment at technician terms.

Use the family pages below to see every title we recognize in each group, then compare the titles side by side before you write a brief. If the exact title you use is missing, choose the closest family and tell us the real duties on the calibration call.

Questions

What if my role does not match any family on this page?

Pick the family closest to the decisions the person will make and describe the duties to us. Titles vary between employers, and we search on the work, not the label.

Can one search cover titles from two families?

Yes, when the duties overlap, for example a controls role that spans commissioning and operations. We agree in the brief which family leads so outreach stays focused.

What does a data center search cost?

No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. The fee basis is written in the agreement before outreach starts.

How long does a data center search take?

It depends on the title, level, location and your interview process. We agree a realistic plan at calibration and do not promise a date.

How do you handle counteroffers for data center candidates?

We discuss motivation and likely counteroffers during live qualification and again before you make an offer.

What guarantee applies to data center hires?

We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

What do you not do in a data center search?

We do not post your role on job boards, send unscreened resumes or approach candidates before the brief is agreed.

How long did your last search take? How much did the empty seat cost while you waited?

An open data center seat holds up commissioning dates, stretches the people covering it and adds cost every week it stays empty. Put your own numbers into the cost-of-vacancy calculator, then compare that figure with a contingency search where you pay only if you hire.

How a search runs

How does The Six-Step Search work?

Every search runs the same six steps. We agree the brief with you, map where the people work, find direct contact routes, reach out personally and repeatedly, then qualify each candidate live. You only see a short list of people who fit, with notes on each, and we stay with you through offer and start.

  1. 01

    Search Calibration

You get: A written brief you sign off on: scope, must-haves, pay band and who not to approach.

  2. 02

    Market Mapping

You get: A map of the companies and projects where your future hire is working today.

  3. 03

    Professional Contact Intelligence

You get: Verified direct contact routes to the people on that map, not job board replies.

  4. 04

    Persistent Personalized Outreach

You get: Repeated, role-specific outreach to people who are not looking, in your words.

  5. 05

    Live Candidate Qualification

You get: Each candidate is screened live against your brief before you hear their name.

  6. 06

    Candidate Intelligence and Process Support

You get: A short list with candidate briefs, then support through interviews, offer and start.
