Controls / BAS Technician recruiters who bring you a focused shortlist
Data Center Headhunters are Controls / BAS Technician recruiters for data center owners, operators and builders. Send us the open role and we find working Controls / BAS Technician candidates, qualify each one live and give you a short list to interview. No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.
You need hands on the controllers, sensors and wiring that make cooling equipment behave, and you need to know how far their authority goes before an engineer must step in.
This is what we do all day: recruit data center professionals.
No postings. No stacks of resumes. No chasing. You interview a short list.
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

What does this hire really come down to?
A controls or BAS technician installs, terminates, checks and troubleshoots field devices and local controllers. They land wires, calibrate sensors, verify actuator direction, and confirm that a point on the screen matches the device on the unit. They usually do not design sequences or change graphics logic unless the employer says so.
The practical boundary is programming. Some technicians load and tweak controller programs under an engineer's direction. Others only terminate and verify. Ask what the candidate was permitted to alter and who signed off. A person who changed setpoints on a live chiller plant without approval is a risk, not a bonus.
Operating conditions matter. A technician in a new build works through point to point checks against a list on many identical units. One in a live facility works around running equipment with strict method statements and often at odd hours. Both are valid, but the skills differ.
What do we check before you see anyone?
Ask them to describe how they test a temperature sensor and a damper actuator from the field to the screen. Ask what documents they worked from on their last project, such as points lists, wiring diagrams or sequences. Ask what they did when a reading looked wrong.
- Ask them to describe how they test a temperature sensor and a damper actuator from the field to the screen.
- Ask what documents they worked from on their last project, such as points lists, wiring diagrams or sequences.
- Ask what they did when a reading looked wrong. Good technicians check the wire and the sensor before blaming software.
- Ask what they will not do without an engineer's approval, and see whether the list is sensible.
Where do we find these candidates?
We look at controls contractors and building automation service teams, where technicians build the habit of closing out every point. We also consider HVAC service technicians who moved into controls and electricians who specialised in low voltage control wiring, and we test their controls knowledge separately.

Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?
Do not ask for a technician and expect engineer level programming at a technician's scope. Do not skip a hands-on test. A short wiring or troubleshooting question shows more than a list of platforms. Do not overlook safety training for live mechanical rooms, which employers must verify rather than assume.

Your search in 3 steps
- Set the authority line
You tell us what the technician may change and what needs an engineer, and we search to that line.
- Confirm the platforms
We note which controller families and field devices you use so we screen for relevant exposure.
- Screen practically, then frame growth
We ask scenario questions on wiring, testing and troubleshooting before presenting anyone. If the role can lead to programming, we say so, since many technicians want that path.
Where this role stops and the next begins
A technician hands problems upward to a controls programmer or engineer when a fault points to logic rather than hardware. Ask candidates for a case where they proved the fault was in the program and how they communicated it, because that handoff saves your engineers hours.
Also ask about site rules they have worked under: lockout of mechanical equipment, escorted access, and permits for work near live cooling. A technician who treats these as obstacles will cost you elsewhere. Those who describe them as ordinary routine have usually worked on running sites.
Shifts and access
Confirm whether the work is days on a build or rotating cover on a running site, since candidates choose between them. Say whether the person works alone or with a partner, and whether on call is expected.

What does BLS publish for this role?
The figure below comes from the national OEWS row for Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technologists and Technicians. Read the mapping badge before using it in a budget. A broader occupation can include jobs outside data centers. Compare your seat’s responsibilities and pay basis with the published occupation rather than treating the median as an offer quote.
Broader occupation. Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technologists and Technicians is a broader occupation based on the work described, not a separate data center wage series. BLS does not distinguish this title, experience level, shift, credentials or data center employers. Confirm the actual duties before using this comparison.

Questions
How quickly can BAS technician candidates reach me?
Technicians are easier to find than engineers in many markets, although platform and shift pattern still matter. A scoping conversation gives us a view without a date commitment. Clear controller families help.
What if a technician's present company matches the offer?
It happens when hours or pay are the only complaint. Candidates tell us what is driving the move before we present them. If the reason is a path toward programming, a match will not hold.
Do BAS technicians move for work?
Some will, particularly for travel heavy construction, while service technicians usually stay near home. Raise relocation in the first call. Local hires suit running facilities better.
How should lodging and per diem be set out?
State the rotation, the lodging arrangement and the meal allowance in the brief. Technicians compare these terms closely. Startup work travels more than steady service.
What practical test shows a technician fits my units?
Ask them to take a sensor and a damper actuator from field wiring to the screen and explain each check. Method matters more than the platform list. We can suggest a scenario using your equipment.
Are the terms the same for technician searches?
Yes, the approved terms shown on this page apply to every search. Ask if the agreement needs explaining.

How a search runs
How does The Six-Step Search work?
Every search runs the same six steps. We agree the brief with you, map where the people work, find direct contact routes, reach out personally and repeatedly, then qualify each candidate live. You only see a short list of people who fit, with notes on each, and we stay with you through offer and start.
- 01
Search Calibration
You get: A written brief you sign off on: scope, must-haves, pay band and who not to approach.
- 02
Market Mapping
You get: A map of the companies and projects where your future hire is working today.
- 03
Professional Contact Intelligence
You get: Verified direct contact routes to the people on that map, not job board replies.
