How we work

Data Center Headhunters recruits critical facilities, data center operations, construction and delivery, commissioning, power and cooling, and executive talent for colocation, hyperscale and enterprise sites. We research the market, contact working people and qualify a shortlist for your opening. No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

A buyer has to choose between permanent direct hire, contract, traveling crews, per diem work and contract-to-hire, and the right choice depends on how long the work lasts and how much knowledge you want to keep.

This is what we do all day: recruit data center professionals.

No postings. No stacks of resumes. No chasing. You interview a short list.

No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

What does this hire really come down to?

Permanent direct hire is the default for roles you want to keep. It is placed on contingency, so you pay when a person starts and not before. It suits leaders, engineers and core technicians whose knowledge builds value over time. Other arrangements are available when the work calls for them, and you can ask us about them.

Contract fits work with an end date. A commissioning window, a go-live or a project peak are examples. The person is hired for a period and leaves when the work is done. The cost per day is higher, but you do not carry the person after the need ends. Traveling and per diem crews follow the same logic for remote sites, and you set the housing and per diem terms as the client.

Contract-to-hire suits cases where you want to see the person work before you commit. It works best when the contract period is short and the criteria for hiring are clear. Without criteria, it becomes a long trial that both sides resent. Ask yourself what you will do if the person leaves in six months. If the answer is that the site would struggle, hire permanently. If the answer is that the work would be done anyway, contract may fit.

What do we check before you see anyone?

Ask how long the work lasts. If it is more than a year, permanent hire is usually better. Ask whether the person will build knowledge that you want to keep. If yes, hire permanently. Ask whether you know the person's fit.

  • Duration: ask how long the work lasts. If it is more than a year, permanent hire is usually better.
  • Knowledge: ask whether the person will build knowledge that you want to keep. If yes, hire permanently.
  • Certainty: ask whether you know the person's fit. If not, contract-to-hire may help.
  • Location: ask whether the work is at one site or across remote sites. Travel changes the terms.
  • Cost: ask what you pay in each model and what you carry afterward.
  • Terms: write per diem and housing before you start and share them.
  • Exit cost: ask what each arrangement costs when it ends. Contract ends cleanly, permanent carries severance expectations.
  • Conversion terms: if you plan contract-to-hire, write the criteria for conversion before the first day.

Where do we find these candidates?

Permanent candidates come from other employers and are weighing a career move. Contract candidates are used to moving between projects and judge on rate and length. Traveling crews judge on rotation and per diem. Each group moves for different reasons.

Permanent candidates seek growth and stability, contract people seek pay and variety and crews seek predictable terms.

Be clear about the arrangement from the start so that candidates who prefer another type do not waste time.

Some candidates prefer contract by choice and have built a life around it. Others take it because permanent roles were not offered. Ask which group the candidate is in before you plan conversion.

Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?

Do not use contract for work that will last years and lose knowledge each time. Each new person starts from nothing. Do not offer permanent roles for a short window and leave people without work. People do not trust a role that vanishes.

  • Leaving per diem and housing unclear for traveling work. Crews decide on terms.

How the search runs

  1. Describe the work

Tell us how long it lasts, where it is and what knowledge must stay. This tells us which arrangement fits. Include the number of people and whether the work moves between sites.

  2. Choose the model

We help you compare permanent, contract, traveling and contract-to-hire for your case. We will say plainly when we think a different model fits better.

  3. Set the terms

We help you write the per diem, housing and travel terms you set as client so candidates see them upfront. We also ask how you want to handle conversion if a contract works well.

Questions

When is permanent hire better than contract?

When the work lasts more than a year or builds knowledge you want to keep. Contract suits fixed windows.

How does contract-to-hire work?

The person works under contract first, then converts if both sides agree. Set criteria in advance.

Who sets per diem and travel terms?

You do, as the client. Share them before the search.

Can we change arrangement midway?

Often yes, for example converting a contract to permanent. Talk to us early.

What do we pay for each arrangement?

The structure differs. Ask us for details on the model you choose.

How do we know whether contract-to-hire is right for us?

If you are unsure of fit and have clear criteria, it can help. If you are sure, hire directly and skip the delay.

How a search runs

How does The Six-Step Search work?

Every search runs the same six steps. We agree the brief with you, map where the people work, find direct contact routes, reach out personally and repeatedly, then qualify each candidate live. You only see a short list of people who fit, with notes on each, and we stay with you through offer and start.

  1. 01

    Search Calibration

You get: A written brief you sign off on: scope, must-haves, pay band and who not to approach.

  2. 02

    Market Mapping

You get: A map of the companies and projects where your future hire is working today.

  3. 03

    Professional Contact Intelligence

You get: Verified direct contact routes to the people on that map, not job board replies.

  4. 04

    Persistent Personalized Outreach

You get: Repeated, role-specific outreach to people who are not looking, in your words.

  5. 05

    Live Candidate Qualification

You get: Each candidate is screened live against your brief before you hear their name.

  6. 06

    Candidate Intelligence and Process Support

You get: A short list with candidate briefs, then support through interviews, offer and start.

What does it cost to hire through Data Center Headhunters?

It depends on the role, the location and the market. We agree a realistic timeline with you during Search Calibration and keep you updated as the search runs.

How do you handle counteroffers?

We talk through motivation, pay and counteroffer risk with each candidate during live qualification and again before an offer, so you hear about the risk before it surprises you.

Is there a guarantee?

We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

What don't you do?

We do not post your job on boards, send stacks of unscreened resumes or charge an upfront fee. We do not approach candidates for your search before the brief is agreed with you.
