- Electrical Apprentice / Electrician HelperA helper who shows up and learns fast becomes a journeyman you did not have to find, and one who does not costs a crew its day.
- Traveling Journeyman Electrician (Per Diem)A traveling journeyman is judged in the first week, when the license, the tools and the habits are all visible at once.
- Lead Electrician / Crew LeadYou are deciding whether a strong journeyman can run a crew without losing the quality of their own work, and an interview has to separate those two skills.
- Master Electrician (license qualifier)You need a master electrician whose license opens the job state to you, and whose judgment keeps the work passing inspection once the license is on the paperwork.
- Medium Voltage ElectricianYou need an electrician who can terminate and splice medium voltage cable the right way, because a bad termination may only fail after the hall is full of customer load.
- Controls Wireman / Industrial Electrician (paralleling gear and control wiring)You need hands that can land hundreds of small control conductors correctly on paralleling gear, because one swapped termination can keep a generator plant from synchronizing.
- Substation Electrician / WiremanYou need a substation wireman who can build and wire a high voltage yard without making the protection engineer's drawings meaningless.
- Lineman, Campus Distribution (overhead and underground)You need a lineman who can work a campus medium-voltage system, where outages reach customers' servers and the utility's rules still apply to the work.
- Transformer Technician (setting, dressing, oil processing)You are hiring someone who handles the heaviest and most expensive equipment on the site, so the interview needs to test how they place, fill and prove a transformer, not only how long they have worked with them.
- Temporary Power Electrician (temp power and lighting)You need an electrician who builds the power a construction site runs on before the permanent system exists, and the risk is mostly in what gets plugged into what.
- Grounding and Lightning Protection InstallerYou are looking for someone who installs the conductors that carry fault and lightning current to earth, where a poor connection stays hidden until the day it matters.
Which license level and electrical specialty does the work require?
Read the scope against the license. Apprentices and helpers work under supervision. Journeymen work independently within their license. Lead electricians direct a crew. A master electrician can qualify the contractor license. Medium voltage, substation, transformer and controls wiring specialists handle work most building electricians have not done.
Medium voltage electricians are the scarce group on most data center builds. Terminations, splices and testing at those voltages need specific training and a safety record to match. A strong commercial journeyman may still need supervised time before leading that work.
Traveling journeymen on per diem move with the work. Be clear about rotation length, per diem terms and how long the project will last, because experienced travelers compare those details carefully.
Where do temporary power, grounding and campus distribution trades fit?
They support the build before and below the permanent system. Temporary power electricians keep construction lit and powered. Grounding and lightning protection installers build protective systems buried under slabs and yards. Linemen build campus overhead and underground distribution. Controls wiremen wire paralleling gear and control panels inside switchgear.
Grounding work is easy to rush because nobody sees it later. Inspection and testing before backfill protect equipment and people for the life of the building.
Linemen and building electricians belong to different trades with different training. If your campus distribution work is significant, recruit linemen specifically rather than hoping electricians can stretch.
How do union and open shop markets change an electrical craft search?
Labor model affects where electricians come from and how they are hired. In union markets, dispatch rules and jurisdiction shape access to workers, and direct-hire roles are usually supervisory. In open shop markets, contractors hire electricians directly. Know which model applies on your project before deciding which titles to recruit.
Supervisory electrical roles, such as general foremen and superintendents, are often filled through direct search in either model, because the employer chooses its leaders.
Ask candidates which model they have worked under. Moving between the two involves different expectations about crew assignment, overtime and dispute resolution.
Temporary power electricians often finish early on a project, so offering them a route onto the permanent installation crew helps keep reliable people on site.
Questions
Do I need a master electrician on staff?
Only if the person must qualify the license or the role requires that authority in your jurisdiction. We confirm local rules before outreach.
Should I hire a journeyman or a lead electrician?
Hire a lead when someone must direct a crew and own quality on an area. A journeyman works independently but does not run others.
What does a Electrical Craft search cost?
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. The fee basis is written in the agreement before outreach starts.
How long does a Electrical Craft search take?
It depends on the title, level, location and your interview process. We agree a realistic plan at calibration and do not promise a date.
How do you handle counteroffers for Electrical Craft candidates?
We discuss motivation and likely counteroffers during live qualification and again before you make an offer.
What guarantee applies to Electrical Craft hires?
We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.
What do you not do in a Electrical Craft search?
We do not post your role on job boards, send unscreened resumes or approach candidates before the brief is agreed.
How long did your last search take? How much did the empty seat cost while you waited?
An open data center seat holds up commissioning dates, stretches the people covering it and adds cost every week it stays empty. Put your own numbers into the cost-of-vacancy calculator, then compare that figure with a contingency search where you pay only if you hire.

How does The Six-Step Search work?
Every search runs the same six steps. We agree the brief with you, map where the people work, find direct contact routes, reach out personally and repeatedly, then qualify each candidate live. You only see a short list of people who fit, with notes on each, and we stay with you through offer and start.
- 01
Search Calibration
You get: A written brief you sign off on: scope, must-haves, pay band and who not to approach.
- 02
Market Mapping
You get: A map of the companies and projects where your future hire is working today.
- 03
Professional Contact Intelligence
You get: Verified direct contact routes to the people on that map, not job board replies.

You get: Repeated, role-specific outreach to people who are not looking, in your words.
- 05
Live Candidate Qualification
You get: Each candidate is screened live against your brief before you hear their name.
- 06
Candidate Intelligence and Process Support
You get: A short list with candidate briefs, then support through interviews, offer and start.
