Fuel Systems Technician (diesel storage, day tanks, fuel polishing) recruiters
Your generators are only as reliable as the diesel behind them, and the person who looks after that fuel often works alone, out of sight, until the day an engine starves.
This is what we do all day: recruit data center professionals.
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

- Fuel Systems Technician (diesel storage, day tanks, fuel polishing)
What does this hire really come down to?
This seat owns the fuel path from the storage tank to the day tank at each engine: transfer pumps, valves, level and leak sensing, filtration, and the sampling that shows whether the fuel is still good. It is not the generator technician's job, and it is not general plumbing.
The boundary matters because each of those trades will assume the other one looked. Fuel polishing is where résumés blur. Some people have run a polishing skid and read the lab report afterward. Others have only watched a vendor do it. Ask who decided to polish, what the sample showed, and what was done with the water and sludge that came out.
Authority differs by site. In some facilities this technician can isolate a tank and start a transfer on their own. In others every valve move needs a written procedure and an approval from the operations lead. Tell us which describes you, because the same person succeeds in one and struggles in the other.
What do we check before you see anyone?
Ask what they do when a day tank level alarm sounds during a utility outage. Listen for sequence, communication to the control room, and manual checks, not a general statement about being careful. Spill and containment knowledge is local. Ask which reporting rules applied at their last site and who made the call to report.
- Ask them to walk a delivery from truck to tank: what they verify before the hose connects, who signs, and how they confirm the receiving tank level against the ticket.

Where do we find these candidates?
Strong candidates come from large standby power plants at hospitals and other facilities that must run through an outage, and from fuel service and tank maintenance contractors who have worked inside live sites. Each type knows a different half of the job.

- Marine and heavy equipment fuel handlers know contamination well but rarely know a facility's change control. Test that gap directly rather than assuming it away.
Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?
Do not hire a generator mechanic and expect tank and piping fluency. Engine skill does not cover fuel quality, leak detection or inventory reconciliation. Do not treat the hazardous materials training certificate as the whole qualification. It shows a class was taken, not that someone has handled a fuel release.

- Leaving out the vendor relationship. This person will direct fuel suppliers and testing labs, so ask how they have handled a late or short delivery.
Questions we settle before outreach
- Define the fuel work
Tell us tank count, buried or aboveground, whether polishing is permanent or portable, and who handles the generators.
- Fix the approval limits and screen on real events
Write down which valve and transfer actions need a second person, so we screen for comfort with that structure. We ask each candidate to describe one contamination or leak response, step by step, and we pass you the detail.
- Interview with your operations lead
Have the generator owner in the room. Their questions on handoffs will separate the practitioners quickly.

Questions
When might a shortlist of fuel specialists reach me?
We discuss timing once we know the role and location. We keep you updated rather than promising a date before the search starts.
If a candidate's current employer counters, how do I tell a real reason to stay?
Fuel handling knowledge is hard to replace, so counteroffers are common. We ask early what would actually make them leave, and we tell you if the answer is weak. Raising it in the first interview is better than learning of it at the offer.
Would a fuel technician move for a tank farm like ours?
Some will, especially if your site has a large fuel plant they cannot get elsewhere. Spill rules and permits are local, so expect a short learning period after a move. Say plainly if you can help with moving costs.
Will diesel deliveries and storms mean overnight work?
Usually it is site based with call-outs for deliveries and storms. If you want someone covering several sites, say so, because that changes who will say yes. Per diem applies only if travel is part of the posted job.
Which part of our tank and polishing setup should candidates match?
Match the fuel system first: tank type, polishing method, and control integration. Then match how much independence your procedures allow. A strong technician from a loose site can be frustrated in a tightly controlled one.
What should I raise about fee terms before we start on this diesel seat?
The fee and replacement terms are the ones we set out in our agreement and on the site. Ask us before the search starts, and we will walk through how they apply to this seat.
