This is what we do all day: recruit data center professionals.

No postings. No stacks of resumes. No chasing. You interview a short list.

No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

What does this hire really come down to?

A night technician is the Level II technician with the safety net thinned. The daytime manager, the vendor engineers and most project crews are gone. Escalation runs through an on-call phone tree, and the technician decides whether a situation is a call-now or a note-for-morning.

That judgment, not rack skill, is what separates a good night hire from an adequate one. The tradeoff is independence against habit. A technician who thrives alone can be tempted to resolve things quietly, leaving the day team with surprises. One who always escalates will wear out your on-call manager. We look for the person who knows which tickets are theirs to close, writes a handoff the morning shift can act on, and stays honest when a fix did not hold.

Not every site means the same thing by nights. A colocation floor spends them on customer remote hands requests and cross-connects. An enterprise or cloud site may spend them on alarm response and rounds. A building with live construction beside it adds access control to the job. The title is identical, the remit is not.

What do we check before you see anyone?

Ask what they did the last time something broke while no manager was reachable. The answer should name the procedure used, who was eventually called and what the morning handoff said. Check customer facing behavior if the site is colocation.

  • Ask what they did the last time something broke while no manager was reachable. The answer should name the procedure used, who was eventually called and what the morning handoff said.
  • Have them describe a round: which equipment they read, what readings they notice changing, and what they log. Rounds done well are specific about temperatures, alarms and doors.
  • Check customer facing behavior if the site is colocation. Verification of identity before access, and refusal to work outside an approved ticket, are non-negotiable.
  • Understand their sleep pattern. Someone who has worked permanent nights for years behaves differently from someone rotating, and both are valid, but your schedule should match.

Where do we find these candidates?

Strong sources are overnight operations staff at other colocation and hosting sites, hardware field service technicians who were on call for after hours dispatches, and network operations staff who want more hands-on work. We also meet military or telecom switch room technicians accustomed to unattended hours.

  • Strong sources are overnight operations staff at other colocation and hosting sites, hardware field service technicians who were on call for after hours dispatches, and network operations staff who want more hands-on work.
  • We also meet military or telecom switch room technicians accustomed to unattended hours. They often have discipline around logs and procedures, though you should test their hands-on server experience.

Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?

Do not staff nights with the newest hire by default. The least supervised shift should not receive the least experienced person. Do not leave the escalation path unwritten. A candidate cannot show judgment against rules you have not stated. Do not ignore the handoff.

  • Ignoring the handoff. If the day shift never reads the night log, the best technician stops writing it.

Your search in 3 steps

  1. Describe your nights honestly

We ask what actually happens between midnight and dawn at your site, and who is reachable.

  2. Test escalation judgment

Scenario questions reveal when candidates act, when they call and how they document.

  3. Check shift stability and match schedule terms

References cover attendance, alertness and how previous night leads rated them. Rotation, differential and weekend coverage are settled before introductions.

What does BLS publish for this role?

The figure below comes from the national OEWS row for Computer, Automated Teller, and Office Machine Repairers. Read the mapping badge before using it in a budget. Questions

How soon will we see night shift candidates?

Timing depends on how many overnight technicians in your market are open to moving and on your site access process. We will tell you what we see once we have spoken with them. We do not offer a fixed number of days.

Do night technicians accept counteroffers?

Some do, particularly if their current employer offers a schedule change rather than money. We ask what they want from the move, so you know whether it is hours, growth or pay. That tells you how likely a counteroffer is to work.

Is relocation realistic for a night role?

It can be, but many night technicians prefer to stay near family and an established sleep routine. Local candidates are usually the more stable pool. If you want someone to relocate, say so early and discuss support.

Will a night technician ever be sent to another building?

Not normally, since nights are tied to one site. Occasional cross-site coverage may come up, and we should note it in the posting. A candidate should hear that during the first conversation.

How do we judge whether someone fits our nights?

Give a real situation from your last quarter and ask them to talk through it. Notice whether they ask about your escalation list before acting. Fit shows up in what questions they raise.

What should we know about fees on a night shift hire?

Fee terms are written down before the search starts and apply the same way regardless of shift. Ask us for the written terms if you want to compare against other options. No part of the arrangement changes because the work is overnight.

How a search runs

How does The Six-Step Search work?

Every search runs the same six steps. We agree the brief with you, map where the people work, find direct contact routes, reach out personally and repeatedly, then qualify each candidate live. You only see a short list of people who fit, with notes on each, and we stay with you through offer and start.

  1. 01

    Search Calibration

You get: A written brief you sign off on: scope, must-haves, pay band and who not to approach.

  2. 02

    Market Mapping

You get: A map of the companies and projects where your future hire is working today.

  3. 03

    Professional Contact Intelligence

You get: Verified direct contact routes to the people on that map, not job board replies.

  4. 04

    Persistent Personalized Outreach

You get: Repeated, role-specific outreach to people who are not looking, in your words.

  5. 05

    Live Candidate Qualification

You get: Each candidate is screened live against your brief before you hear their name.

  6. 06

    Candidate Intelligence and Process Support

You get: A short list with candidate briefs, then support through interviews, offer and start.

What should you know before you send a role?

How long until I see a short list?

It depends on the role, the location and the market. We agree a realistic timeline with you during Search Calibration and keep you updated as the search runs.

Is there a guarantee?

We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

What don't you do?

We do not post your job on boards, send stacks of unscreened resumes or charge an upfront fee. We do not approach candidates for your search before the brief is agreed with you.
