Commissioning & Quality recruiters who bring you a focused shortlist
Data Center Headhunters are Commissioning & Quality recruiters for data center owners, operators and builders. Send us the open role and we find working Commissioning & Quality candidates, qualify each one live and give you a short list to interview. No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.
Commissioning and quality are the last defenses before the customer's equipment arrives, and a team hired too late only documents problems it could have prevented.
This is what we do all day: recruit data center professionals.
No postings. No stacks of resumes. No chasing. You interview a short list.

What does this hire really come down to?
This family covers three jobs that look alike from outside. Commissioning proves systems work as designed. Testing confirms individual equipment meets standard. Quality control checks that the work in the field matches the drawings before anyone tests. Hire in the wrong order and you pay for expensive testing of poor work.
The tradeoff is independence against integration. An agent hired by the owner can fail a test without a conflict. A commissioning team inside the contractor works faster with the crews but is under pressure to pass. For a first project or a high stakes customer, favor independence. For repeated builds with a mature team, an integrated approach can work if the owner still witnesses.
Seniority also matters differently here. A senior commissioning lead is valuable for writing scripts and handling disputes. A technician who runs tests is valuable for hands. Many projects hire the lead and too few technicians, and the lead ends up running tests instead of managing the program. Ask yourself who the team will report to once testing finds something expensive. The person who receives that news must be able to act on it, and the team must trust that they will. Ask how the person writes. Test records and issue logs are read by lawyers later, so clear writing counts.
What do we check before you see anyone?
Ask which levels of commissioning they have led, from factory witness to integrated systems testing, and what they wrote versus ran. Ask for a test that failed late and how it was resolved, including who they told. Ask how they authored or modified scripts and who approved the changes.

- Ask how they handled pressure to pass a test that had not truly passed.
- Ask how they track open issues across many systems and trades.
- Ask what quality inspections they did before testing began.
- Ask how they deal with a vendor who disputes a failed result and how they document the dispute.
Where do we find these candidates?
They move when a project ends far from home, when their firm wants them to pass tests faster or when they want to join an owner and see systems operate. Some want to leave travel. Others want to move from testing into leadership.
- Commissioning and quality people come from independent commissioning firms, testing companies, mechanical and electrical contractors, owner project teams and manufacturers' startup groups. Independent firms are strongest on process and independence. Testing companies are strongest on electrical gear. Contractors know where faults hide. Owner teams understand what the customer expects.
- They move when a project ends far from home, when their firm wants them to pass tests faster or when they want to join an owner and see systems operate. Some want to leave travel. Others want to move from testing into leadership. Clear statements about independence and authority to fail a test attract the careful ones. Candidates compare projects by how much authority the commissioning team has. A team that can hold a test earns respect, and one that cannot is treated like a clerk. Many also ask whether they will be reassigned mid project, and a clear answer helps.
Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?
Do not hire commissioning after construction is nearly complete, which leaves no chance to influence design or sequences. Do not hire a lead with no technicians behind them, so the lead runs tests and the program lapses. Do not let the contractor's own team sign off its own work.

Your search in 3 steps
- Separate the three jobs
We ask what you need from commissioning, testing and quality control, and which of them has no owner today.
- Set the independence question
We help you decide whether the team reports to the owner, an agent or the contractor, and what authority each has to fail a test.
- Match to the phase
We screen candidates against the level of testing you are about to run, not their longest title.

Questions
Should commissioning be independent of the contractor?
Independence gives results more weight. If cost forces integration, keep owner witness on the critical tests.
When should the commissioning lead be hired?
Early enough to review design and sequences. Later hires can only record what already exists.
What is the difference between testing and commissioning hires?
Testing technicians prove individual equipment. Commissioning engineers prove the systems work together. Most projects need both.
How many technicians does a lead need?
It depends on the number of systems and the test schedule. A lead who runs every test cannot also manage the program.
Is quality control worth a separate hire?
On large builds yes. Inspectors who catch work before testing save time at every later stage.
What do we do when a candidate has testing experience but no commissioning?
Treat it as an electrical or mechanical specialist path. They can grow into commissioning with a mentor but will not lead a program yet.

How long did your last search take? How much did the empty seat cost while you waited?
An open data center seat holds up commissioning dates, stretches the people covering it and adds cost every week it stays empty. Put your own numbers into the cost-of-vacancy calculator, then compare that figure with a contingency search where you pay only if you hire.

How does The Six-Step Search work?
Every search runs the same six steps. We agree the brief with you, map where the people work, find direct contact routes, reach out personally and repeatedly, then qualify each candidate live. You only see a short list of people who fit, with notes on each, and we stay with you through offer and start.
- 01
Search Calibration
You get: A written brief you sign off on: scope, must-haves, pay band and who not to approach.
- 02
Market Mapping
You get: A map of the companies and projects where your future hire is working today.
- 03
Professional Contact Intelligence
You get: Verified direct contact routes to the people on that map, not job board replies.
- 04
Persistent Personalized Outreach
You get: Repeated, role-specific outreach to people who are not looking, in your words.
- 05
Live Candidate Qualification
You get: Each candidate is screened live against your brief before you hear their name.
- 06
Candidate Intelligence and Process Support
You get: A short list with candidate briefs, then support through interviews, offer and start.
What should you know before you send a role?
How long until I see a short list?
It depends on the role, the location and the market. We agree a realistic timeline with you during Search Calibration and keep you updated as the search runs.
How do you handle counteroffers?
We talk through motivation, pay and counteroffer risk with each candidate during live qualification and again before an offer, so you hear about the risk before it surprises you.
Is there a guarantee?
We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.
What don't you do?
We do not post your job on boards, send stacks of unscreened resumes or charge an upfront fee. We do not approach candidates for your search before the brief is agreed with you.
