Data Center Headhunters are Factory Witness Test (FWT) Engineer recruiters for data center owners, operators and builders. Send us the open role and we find working Factory Witness Test (FWT) Engineer candidates, qualify each one live and give you a short list to interview. No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

You need an engineer who stands in a manufacturer's test bay and tells you whether the equipment you bought actually passed. That is a different skill from commissioning it later on site.

This is what we do all day: recruit data center professionals.

No postings. No stacks of resumes. No chasing. You interview a short list.

No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

What does this hire really come down to?

A factory witness test engineer reviews the test plan before the visit, observes the manufacturer running it, and records what was done, what was skipped and what failed. The role speaks for the owner or contractor at the factory. It does not redesign the equipment, and it does not approve a deviation unless someone with authority said so beforehand.

The work sits upstream of site commissioning. Generators, switchgear, UPS and chillers are loaded and exercised at the factory so defects are found before shipment. A good witness knows the specification well enough to notice a test that was quietly shortened, and has the standing to say so in a room full of manufacturer staff.

Projects differ. On a repeat design with a known supplier the witness may check a short list. On a first-of-a-kind unit the visit may cover load banks, transient response and controls logic over several days. Tell us which you have, because the experience required changes sharply.

What do we check before you see anyone?

Ask which equipment they have witnessed and what the test plan covered. Then ask what they did when the manufacturer proposed skipping a step. Request a sample report, anonymized. Look for a clear list of deviations and open items rather than a general statement that it passed.

  • Ask about the handoff to site commissioning, and what information they passed forward about quirks seen at the factory.

Where do we find these candidates?

We search commissioning firms, manufacturer test departments, owner engineering groups and quality teams on large critical power projects. Field service engineers from equipment makers sometimes cross over well, because they know where units usually fail and can steer a witness test toward the checks that matter most.

Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?

Do not send a junior engineer who cannot challenge the test lead at the manufacturer. Share the specification and submittals before the visit, so the witness arrives prepared. And do not treat the factory test as ceremony; read the report promptly instead of waiting until problems appear on site.

Your search in 3 steps

  1. Confirm equipment and suppliers

We ask which units are being witnessed and where, so we can match travel and expertise.

  2. Settle authority on deviations

We clarify who can accept a changed test, so candidates know the limits.

  3. Interview on a real plan

We bring you people who can critique a sample test procedure.

What a good witness actually does in the bay

Before travelling, they compare the manufacturer's test procedure with the specification line by line and mark gaps. In the bay they watch instrument connections, not only results, because a correct reading on the wrong tap proves nothing. At the end they list open items with owners before leaving the building.

Ask candidates how they handle a manufacturer who is behind schedule and wants to ship with an open item. The answer should involve a written deviation, an authorized approver and a plan for retesting on site, rather than a handshake.

Preparing your own team for the visit

Give the witness the approved submittals, the specification sections and the previous unit's report if one exists. Also tell them who at your company decides on a deviation and how to reach that person from a factory floor in another time zone.

Ask for the report within a stated period after the visit, and agree what format the open items should take, so your site team can pick them up directly.

Questions

How quickly can you provide a shortlist for a witness test engineer?

Factory dates often drive the urgency, and good witnesses book up around them. Tell us the visit window and equipment, and we will describe the realistic market without committing to a day.

Will a witness engineer's employer make a counteroffer?

Possibly, particularly if the person is tied to a large customer. We ask what would keep them so you know early if it is likely to hold.

Does this role need to relocate?

Usually not, since the work is visit based and the engineer returns home between factories. If you want someone embedded at your site afterward, discuss that up front.

How are travel costs handled when factories are in other countries?

Visits can span long trips, so flights, lodging and per diem should be agreed in writing before the first one. Candidates also need to confirm they can travel internationally.

How do I know whether I need a witness engineer or a commissioning agent?

If your concern is what happens in the factory before shipment, you need the witness. If it is integrated testing on site, you need commissioning.

Our factory visits are occasional. Does a part-time witness role change the search?

It can, because candidates weigh visit-based work against steady employment. Tell us whether the seat is permanent with periodic travel or a project assignment, and share the pay range that goes with it.

How a search runs

How does The Six-Step Search work?

Every search runs the same six steps. We agree the brief with you, map where the people work, find direct contact routes, reach out personally and repeatedly, then qualify each candidate live. You only see a short list of people who fit, with notes on each, and we stay with you through offer and start.

  1. 01

    Search Calibration

You get: A written brief you sign off on: scope, must-haves, pay band and who not to approach.

  2. 02

    Market Mapping

You get: A map of the companies and projects where your future hire is working today.

  3. 03

    Professional Contact Intelligence

You get: Verified direct contact routes to the people on that map, not job board replies.

  4. 04

    Persistent Personalized Outreach

You get: Repeated, role-specific outreach to people who are not looking, in your words.

  5. 05

    Live Candidate Qualification

You get: Each candidate is screened live against your brief before you hear their name.

  6. 06

    Candidate Intelligence and Process Support

You get: A short list with candidate briefs, then support through interviews, offer and start.
