Senior Electrical Engineer / Electrical Engineer of Record (PE) recruiters who bring you a focused shortlist
Data Center Headhunters are Senior Electrical Engineer / Electrical Engineer of Record (PE) recruiters for data center owners, operators and builders. Send us the open role and we find working Senior Electrical Engineer / Electrical Engineer of Record (PE) candidates, qualify each one live and give you a short list to interview. No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.
You need an engineer whose stamp goes on the electrical drawings and who can defend them to an owner, an inspector and a contractor. A title on a résumé does not show whose name was on the sheets.
This is what we do all day: recruit data center professionals.
No postings. No stacks of resumes. No chasing. You interview a short list.
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

- Senior Electrical Engineer / Electrical Engineer of Record (PE)
What does this hire really come down to?
The electrical engineer of record is a legal role before it is a design role. That person holds a professional engineer license in the state where the project sits, seals the documents, and answers for them. A senior engineer who works under someone else's seal is a different hire, even when the day-to-day drawings look alike.
Decide which of those you are buying before anyone reads a résumé. On a data center the design questions are specific: utility service and medium voltage distribution, generator and paralleling arrangements, UPS topology, and how a concurrent maintenance requirement shapes breaker and bus layout. Short circuit and coordination studies sit here too. Some engineers have drawn the one-line for a whole hall and others only checked a piece of it.
The adjacent levels split cleanly. An engineer below this seat produces calculations and markups for review. A principal or discipline lead above it owns staffing, fees and client standing. The senior engineer of record sits between, carrying technical liability without necessarily carrying the business.
What do we check before you see anyone?
Ask where the license is held and whether the person has sealed mission critical work there. Licenses do not transfer automatically, and a pending comity application is not a license. Ask who built the short circuit and coordination model, in which software, and what they changed after the results came back.
- Licensure by state: ask where the license is held and whether the person has sealed mission critical work there. Licenses do not transfer automatically, and a pending comity application is not a license.
- Studies they ran themselves: ask who built the short circuit and coordination model, in which software, and what they changed after the results came back.
- Construction phase involvement: ask about a submittal or field condition that forced a redesign, and how they handled the contractor's request for a substitution.
Where do we find these candidates?
Engineers of record come from consulting engineering firms with mission critical groups, from design-build contractors with in-house engineering, and from owner engineering teams that write standards. Each brings a different habit. Consultants know the client-facing side, design-build engineers know cost and sequence, and owner engineers know the operating consequences.

- People move when the seal has become a burden without the authority, or when a firm shifts away from critical facilities. We ask about who reviews their work today, because it tells you how far they have really been trusted.
Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?
Do not treat a license held in another state as enough for your project's jurisdiction. Do not hire for design depth when the real gap is coordination with the contractor during construction. Do not skip the question of who actually signed the previous projects.

Your search in 3 steps
- Settle the seal
We confirm with you which states and project types the engineer must be able to stamp, and whether supervision of juniors is expected.
- Screen on drawings and studies
We ask for descriptions of the one-lines and studies they personally produced, and check them against the title.
- Test the owner conversation
Before you meet, we explore how the person explained a tradeoff to a non-engineer owner and what happened next.
Where the remit gets blurry
Watch for the engineer who says they led design but whose firm kept a principal's seal on every sheet. Ask who answered the owner's questions during bid clarifications and who signed the response.
Handoffs to watch
The engineer hands the design to the contractor at submittals and to the commissioning team at testing. Ask which handoff the candidate found hardest, and what they changed in later drawings because of it.

What does BLS publish for this role?
The figure below comes from the national OEWS row for Electrical Engineers. Read the mapping badge before using it in a budget. A broader occupation can include jobs outside data centers. Compare your seat’s responsibilities and pay basis with the published occupation rather than treating the median as an offer quote.
Broader occupation. Electrical Engineers is a broader occupation based on the work described, not a separate data center wage series. BLS does not distinguish this title, experience level, shift, credentials or data center employers. Confirm the actual duties before using this comparison.

Questions
How quickly will I see a shortlist for an engineer of record?
Licensure in your state narrows the pool before anything else, so we confirm that first. You get names once licensure and sealed mission critical work are both checked.
What happens if their current firm counteroffers?
Engineers of record often get a counter because their firm carries liability through them. We ask early what would make them stay, so you hear about it before an offer goes out.
Will an engineer relocate if licensed elsewhere?
Moving states means a new license application, and that timing can affect when they can seal. Raise the start date and any interim supervision with us at the outset.
Does this role travel to sites?
Expect visits during construction administration, such as walkdowns and witness testing. Tell us how often so we can screen for willingness, and agree how per diem is handled.
How do I judge fit between a consultant and an owner-side engineer?
Look at who the engineer has been answerable to. Someone who served an owner will question your scope differently from someone who billed hours against a fee.
How do fees work for a licensed engineering search?
The fee terms are set before the search begins and apply to the title you approve. Confirm in writing that the engineer-of-record title is the one covered.
