How senior searches differ

At this level the pool is small and everyone knows everyone. Discretion matters, the client name is often held back until a candidate is qualified, and the first conversation is about the problem the person would solve, not the job description.

Our model for senior roles

We run senior searches on the same contingency terms as every other search. There is no upfront fee. If you want a retained model, see our page comparing contingency and retained search so you can choose with the facts in hand.

Roles we handle

Project executives and program managers, general superintendents, directors of operations, site directors, chief engineers, development and power leaders.

What we need from you

A named decision maker, an honest description of why the role is open, and a willingness to move quickly once a qualified person appears. Strong senior candidates take other calls.

How a search runs

How does The Six-Step Search work?

Every search runs the same six steps. We agree the brief with you, map where the people work, find direct contact routes, reach out personally and repeatedly, then qualify each candidate live. You only see a short list of people who fit, with notes on each, and we stay with you through offer and start.

  1. 01

    Search Calibration

You get: A written brief you sign off on: scope, must-haves, pay band and who not to approach.

  2. 02

    Market Mapping

You get: A map of the companies and projects where your future hire is working today.

  3. 03

    Professional Contact Intelligence

You get: Verified direct contact routes to the people on that map, not job board replies.

  4. 04

    Persistent Personalized Outreach

You get: Repeated, role-specific outreach to people who are not looking, in your words.

  5. 05

    Live Candidate Qualification

You get: Each candidate is screened live against your brief before you hear their name.

  6. 06

    Candidate Intelligence and Process Support

You get: A short list with candidate briefs, then support through interviews, offer and start.

What makes a data center executive search different from a technician search?

Executive searches are quieter, slower to open and decided on judgment rather than checklists. The people you want are usually running a program they care about, so the first conversation is about the problem you need solved. Confidentiality runs in both directions, because neither side wants an exploratory talk to become public.

A senior leader in this sector is often known by name to suppliers, utilities and competitors. A careless approach can unsettle their current team or leak your plans. We approach by phone, describe the mandate without naming you until there is mutual interest, and keep written notes to the minimum both sides agree.

The decision on your side is usually made by a small group. We ask early who will interview, who signs the offer and whether a board or investor must approve, because executive candidates lose confidence quickly when the process seems to grow new steps.

How do you decide whether the mandate is really executive level?

Look at the decisions the person will own without asking anyone. Capital allocation, hiring and firing leaders, representing the business to customers or investors and carrying a profit target are executive decisions. If the person mainly executes a plan written by someone else, the role may be a senior director search instead.

Getting this right protects both the offer and the candidate pool. Strong executives decline roles that turn out to be senior management with a bigger title. Strong directors decline roles that ask for executive judgment without executive authority. Naming the real level keeps the conversation honest from the first call.

Write down what success looks like after the first year: sites delivered, teams built, costs changed or markets entered. That statement does more to attract the right leaders than any list of preferred qualifications.

What should a hiring board expect from the candidate brief?

Each brief explains what the person has personally owned, how large it was, why they would consider moving and what could stop them. It records motivation, compensation expectations, notice terms and likely counteroffers. Boards use it to compare finalists on evidence rather than on the polish of a single interview.

We also note what we could not confirm. An executive brief that hides gaps creates surprises during references, and surprises late in a senior search cost more than anywhere else.

Reference conversations at this level are best planned with the candidate. Many will accept checks with former peers or investors once an offer is close, and we help sequence those calls so nobody is exposed early.

Questions

Can an executive search stay confidential while we replace someone?

Yes. We describe the mandate without naming you until a candidate shows real interest, and we agree with you in advance what may be shared and when.

Do executive candidates expect a different interview process?

They expect fewer, better prepared conversations with the real decision makers. We help you plan who meets them and in what order so the process stays short and credible.

Should a board member join the first conversation?

Usually not. A first conversation works best with the hiring executive. Board members tend to add the most value in a later, deeper discussion.

What guarantee covers an executive placement?

We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.
