Controls Wireman / Industrial Electrician (paralleling gear and control wiring) recruiters

You need hands that can land hundreds of small control conductors correctly on paralleling gear, because one swapped termination can keep a generator plant from synchronizing.

This is what we do all day: recruit data center professionals.

No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

What does this hire really come down to?

This is not power wiring. A controls wireman works with low-voltage and control circuits inside generator paralleling switchgear, transfer equipment and their interlocks: current and potential transformer leads, breaker control and status wires, governor and synchronizer signals, emergency stop loops and network cabling. The work lives in the panel drawings and wiring schedules.

A general electrician who pulls feeders all day may be uncomfortable with a terminal strip that holds forty tiny wires, each needing a ferrule, a tug test and a label. Ask where the person stops and the commissioning technician starts. The wireman lands and verifies continuity, polarity and point-to-point. The technician or factory engineer tests logic, sets relays and proves operation. Some wiremen do both on small jobs, but you should know which you are buying. Also learn who decided to land a wire when the drawing and the gear disagreed, because that choice should go through the engineer.

What do we check before you see anyone?

Ask them to explain how a current transformer secondary is treated and why it is never left open. A real answer includes shorting blocks and the hazard of high voltage appearing across an open secondary. Check their record handling. They should mention redlines on drawings, wire labels, torque marks and punch lists rather than only the physical work.

  • Request a description of ring-out work: which wires, which drawings, how discrepancies were recorded, and who approved changes.
  • Check their record handling. They should mention redlines on drawings, wire labels, torque marks and punch lists rather than only the physical work.
  • Confirm the electrician license and ask what NFPA 70E tasks the employer authorized, since a certificate alone does not establish qualification for energized control work.

Tell us who you need

Where do we find these candidates?

We search among industrial electricians from manufacturing plants and process facilities who read control schematics weekly, and among switchgear shop and panel builders who are moving into field work. Another source is wiremen on generator and power plant projects. They know paralleling schemes, though the pace and documentation of a live data center may be new to them.

Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?

Do not hire a feeder installer and expect control wiring skill to follow. It usually does not. Do not ignore the factory's wiring diagram revision. A wireman working from an old drawing can do tidy, wrong work. Do not skip a conversation about who may change a termination on site.

Questions we settle before outreach

  1. Pin the gear

Tell us the equipment families, the number of units and whether wiring is factory-installed or field-landed so we ask the right questions.

  2. Probe the drawings

We ask candidates to talk through a drawing rather than list years, and we pass you what they said.

  3. Meet the engineer

A short call with your commissioning lead tests how the wireman handles discrepancies.

Reading the room

Listen for how a candidate talks about the gear. Someone who has worked paralleling lineups will mention load sharing, breaker status contacts and the way a missing permissive can leave a generator idle. Someone who has only seen the cabinet from outside will talk about wire counts. Ask what they checked before the first power-up and who watched them do it.

What does BLS publish for this role?

The figure below comes from the national OEWS row for Electricians. Read the mapping badge before using it in a budget. A broader occupation can include jobs outside data centers. Compare your seat’s responsibilities and pay basis with the published occupation rather than treating the median as an offer quote.

Questions

How soon can we expect a shortlist for a controls wireman?

We cannot promise a date because skilled control wiremen are scarce and often committed to current jobs. A precise equipment description speeds up the first screen. We would rather bring three people who match than many who do not.

Do controls wiremen get counteroffers?

We talk about why the person wants to move and whether they might stay. If that changes, we let you know.

Will an industrial electrician move for a data center project?

Some will for the right work, though many have family and plant obligations. We discuss the project length and any housing support before we introduce them. Local candidates are worth exploring first.

How does travel work for this role?

Travel terms are set by the project and the agreement that applies, so we ask you for them early. Wiremen who have traveled before know to ask about per diem and schedule. Tell us if work is rotated or continuous.

How do we know a wireman fits our gear?

Have them explain how they would verify a wiring run on your equipment drawings. If they ask about revision levels and approval of changes, they are thinking correctly. A wireman who only asks about pay may not be ready.

What should we know about fees?

We settle terms with you before introducing anyone, and we put them in writing. If you want us to compare contract wiring crews to a direct hire, we can lay out both. No candidate is presented without your agreement to those terms.
