Data Center Headhunters are Site Reliability Engineer (Infrastructure) recruiters for data center owners, operators and builders. Send us the open role and we find working Site Reliability Engineer (Infrastructure) candidates, qualify each one live and give you a short list to interview. No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.
You want an engineer who treats the platform as software and the facility as a dependency, and not every infrastructure résumé fits that.
This is what we do all day: recruit data center professionals.
No postings. No stacks of resumes. No chasing. You interview a short list.
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

- Site Reliability Engineer (Infrastructure)
What does this hire really come down to?
An infrastructure site reliability engineer defines reliability targets, automates operations, builds monitoring and capacity planning, and leads incident review for the platform layer: compute, network, storage and the systems around them. The role is not a data center technician job, and it is not purely application support either.
The question is where the person sits relative to hardware. Some infrastructure SREs work far above the floor and have never met a facilities team. Others sit close to capacity, power limits and hardware failure and write code to cope. Your site decides which you need.
Authority differs from an operations engineer. The SRE can often refuse a launch that violates reliability targets or push back on change windows. Candidates who describe only following the on-call schedule may be operations people with a different title.
What do we check before you see anyone?
Ask for an incident review they led and what changed afterward. A real SRE has a record of fixes, not just heroics. Ask what they automated and how they decided it was worth it. Look for removed toil, not scripts for show.

- Ask how they handled a hardware or power event that affected software. You want an understanding of physical dependency.
Where do we find these candidates?
Infrastructure SREs often come from cloud and hosting operators, large internet platform teams, and systems engineering groups in finance or telecommunications. Some move over from senior system administrator roles with strong scripting. Cloud-native backgrounds may rarely deal with physical hardware.

- Cloud-native backgrounds may rarely deal with physical hardware. Systems administrators know hardware but may lack software discipline. Name the gap you can teach.
Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?
Do not hire a developer who has never carried a pager. Settle who owns capacity, power and hardware lifecycle before the search, because those seams decide what reliability means here. And do not expect reliability authority without giving it in writing, or the engineer will watch problems they cannot fix.

Your search in 3 steps
- Decide the layer
We confirm what the engineer owns and what stays with facilities and hardware teams.
- Review the history
We ask for incident reviews and automation, not only technology lists.
- Test the physical link and fix the authority
You hear how finalists reason about power, cooling or hardware failure. We clarify launch, change and on-call power before offers.
Interview scenarios worth running
Describe a rack that loses power in one feed and ask how the platform should behave, how they would know, and what they would change in the design. Strong engineers ask about redundancy at the facility, not just the software layer.
Then ask what they would refuse to launch. A person who has never said no to a release may not hold the authority your role needs.
Reliability targets as a hiring signal
Ask how they chose a target and what they did when it was missed. Real experience produces a discussion of tradeoffs between speed and stability, with named consequences.
Adjacent roles to compare
A systems administrator keeps servers running, an operations engineer follows runbooks, and a platform engineer builds internal tooling. The infrastructure SRE overlaps all three but is judged by reliability outcomes and removed manual work. Ask which of those descriptions the candidate would use for their last job, and see if it matches yours.
Check who they worked beside: facilities, hardware operations, network, application teams. A person who has dealt with all of them adapts faster.
One more check: ask how they would divide time between firefighting and removing the causes. Candidates with a clear rule for protecting engineering time usually keep teams out of permanent crisis.

What does BLS publish for this role?
The figure below comes from the national OEWS row for Network and Computer Systems Administrators. Read the mapping badge before using it in a budget. A broader occupation can include jobs outside data centers. Compare your seat’s responsibilities and pay basis with the published occupation rather than treating the median as an offer quote.
Broader occupation. Network and Computer Systems Administrators is a broader occupation based on the work described, not a separate data center wage series. BLS does not distinguish this title, experience level, shift, credentials or data center employers. Confirm the actual duties before using this comparison.

Questions
What shapes how quickly an infrastructure SRE can be found?
How close to hardware the seat sits and how specific your stack is. A seat that mixes software and physical capacity work narrows the pool. We tell you where trade-offs make it easier.
Would an SRE stay when a title bump is offered?
Title changes seldom fix on-call load or a lack of authority over launches. We ask what the engineer would own that they cannot now. If it is real veto power, you have a case.
Do infrastructure SREs expect remote work?
Many do, and some will decline a role that requires daily presence. If the seat sits close to hardware, state which days require it. Candidates compare that with remote offers.
How should I describe hall visits to an SRE?
Explain that visits come with capacity reviews, big launches and hardware failures, and say who covers costs. Engineers accept occasional trips more readily than steady ones.
How do I judge whether an SRE's platform resembles mine?
Compare fleet scale, hardware mix and incident culture. Ask how they would respond to a failed rack taking a service down. The reply shows whether they think about power and hardware or only software.
Why do pay ranges stall SRE searches?
They compete with software roles that have no facility duties. Give us the range with the on-call terms. We tell you early if the market reads differently.

How a search runs
How does The Six-Step Search work?
Every search runs the same six steps. We agree the brief with you, map where the people work, find direct contact routes, reach out personally and repeatedly, then qualify each candidate live. You only see a short list of people who fit, with notes on each, and we stay with you through offer and start.
- 01
Search Calibration
You get: A written brief you sign off on: scope, must-haves, pay band and who not to approach.
- 02
Market Mapping
You get: A map of the companies and projects where your future hire is working today.
- 03
Professional Contact Intelligence
You get: Verified direct contact routes to the people on that map, not job board replies.
- 04
Persistent Personalized Outreach
You get: Repeated, role-specific outreach to people who are not looking, in your words.
- 05
