Senior Project Manager, Data Center for Modular, prefab and edge deployments

Data Center Headhunters recruits critical facilities, data center operations, construction and delivery, commissioning, power and cooling, and executive talent for colocation, hyperscale and enterprise sites. We research the market, contact working people and qualify a shortlist for your opening. No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

A senior manager of modular and edge programs runs a pipeline rather than a building, and you need to confirm that a candidate has handled the supplier, the sites and the owner together.

This is what we do all day: recruit data center professionals.

No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

What does this hire really come down to?

The senior seat here usually owns the supplier relationship, the standard design and the rollout plan. Where the project manager answers for a unit or site group, the senior answers for whether the standard still works at the twentieth deployment.

Ask whether your program has a settled standard or is still discovering one, because candidates are suited to one or the other. A senior also negotiates with factories about slots, penalties and changes. A weak negotiator can lose factory capacity to a competitor. Ask for an example of a supplier problem and what pressure the candidate applied, and whether the relationship survived.

At the program level, risks include inconsistent local rules, utility timelines and unreliable hosts. The senior builds a way to handle those exceptions without disrupting everyone else. Treat a candidate who offers a rigid rollout plan with caution.

What do we check before you see anyone?

Ask how they changed the standard design after learning from early sites, and who approved the change. Ask how they handled a factory capacity or quality problem. Ask how they communicated a site exception to the owner without alarming them.

  • Ask who they trained to run site rollouts and how that person was supported.
  • Ask how they decided when a site deserved an exception to the standard, and who else had to agree.

How a search runs

How does The Six-Step Search work?

We use executive-search discipline for technical, frontline and leadership assignments. That means understanding the work, researching the right market and holding meaningful conversations before recommending an introduction. The questions change with the assignment. A shortlist is an outcome of that judgment, not the whole service.

  1. 01

    Search Calibration

We agree what the person must accomplish and what they will actually own. Construction, commissioning and live operations need different questions. We clarify systems, site type, scale, decision authority, reporting lines and the team around the hire.

  2. 02

    Market Mapping

We research comparable sites, projects and teams, then consider adjacent backgrounds where the experience could transfer. A matching title is a starting point, not evidence that someone has handled the same responsibility.

  3. 03

    Professional Contact Intelligence

Contact research helps us approach relevant people appropriately. It enables the search; it is not the product. Public records can be incomplete or out of date, so employment history and responsibility remain questions to discuss and confirm where appropriate.

  4. 04

    Persistent Personalized Outreach

We explain the actual work and why the opportunity may be relevant, then follow up thoughtfully and respectfully. We listen to whether a move makes sense for that person rather than treating a response as proof of interest or fit.

  5. 05

    Live Candidate Qualification

We ask about work personally owned, decisions made and what happened when a plan went wrong. We discuss motivation and practical terms: compensation, shifts, travel, per diem where relevant, availability and authority. We distinguish the candidate's account from anything independently confirmed.

  6. 06

    Candidate Intelligence and Process Support

You receive a reasoned brief: why the person may fit, supporting examples, uncertainties and useful interview questions. We agree which credentials, references or other checks are appropriate and who will complete them. We stay involved through feedback, offer discussions and the start, rather than stopping at an introduction.

Where do we find these candidates?

Seniors from modular or prefabricated building programs, including outside data centers, understand supplier and factory risks. Telecom and distributed infrastructure program managers bring rollout discipline. Seniors from data center builders who led a skid or module program are narrow but valuable.

Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?

  • Hiring a campus-minded senior who underestimates factory dynamics.
  • Giving the senior the program without authority to change the standard design.
  • Ignoring supplier relationships until a problem appears.

Questions we settle before outreach

  1. Clarify the standard

We ask if the design is mature or developing, then match seniors accordingly.

  2. Search across program types

We approach modular, telecom and distributed program leaders, then data center specialists.

  3. Probe negotiating style and define authority

We ask for supplier conflicts and their results. We help you set who can approve changes to the standard before offers are made.

The twentieth site

Ask what changed between the first deployment and the later ones, and who decided. Programs drift when nobody owns the standard. A senior who can describe a revision, the reason for it and the way it reached every site has managed the pipeline rather than a series of jobs.

Be wary of treating a successful pilot as evidence that the program will survive growth unchanged, since staffing and approval routes usually need to change.

Reading a rollout record

Ask the candidate to describe how they kept a record of each site's exceptions: local permit conditions, utility quirks, host contacts. A strong record is what lets a new project manager take over a group of sites without starting again.

Ask what they would stop doing if the program doubled in size. Seniors who have scaled a rollout usually name a habit they had to drop, such as approving every change personally, and describe what replaced it.

Also ask what they would never delegate. The answer tells you where they think the program's real risk sits.

Questions

How quickly can you share a shortlist?

Program-level modular experience is uncommon, so availability drives the timing. We will tell you early how the pool looks. We do not offer a numeric promise.

How common are counteroffers for senior program leaders?

They are common, since the current program depends on the person. Ask finalists what the counter would change and whether their program is growing. We help you weigh it.

Should I expect to pay for relocation?

Program leaders often sit near a factory or head office, so relocation may matter. Others lead remotely, and you may prefer that. Decide which arrangement suits the program.

What travel pattern should I expect from a program lead who visits factories and sites?

Seniors visit factories and sites across regions. Define the likely nights away and what is reimbursed, since heavy travel affects family decisions and how candidates compare offers.

How do I judge fit with my suppliers?

Introduce the finalist to a supplier contact if possible, or ask how they would open a difficult conversation. Fit shows in whether they ask about the supplier's constraints.

How do your fees apply here?

Fee terms are in the agreement signed before work begins, and we explain them plainly. Ask us about anything unclear for a senior program seat.
