Step 1 of 2

How does the offer checker place an offer?

It compares the amount you enter with the five wage percentiles published for the mapped occupation in the chosen area: the 10th, 25th, median, 75th and 90th. The result shows which published points the offer sits between. The arithmetic is a direct comparison, with no adjustment, weighting or estimate added.

Choose the pay basis that matches your offer, hourly or annual, so the comparison uses the same unit as the published figures.

If you leave location blank, the tool uses national figures. Choosing a metro or state uses the figures published for that area when they exist.

What should you include in the offer amount?

Include base pay plus any guaranteed or production based incentive pay. Leave out overtime, discretionary bonus, benefits, per diem and relocation, because the published wage figures leave those out too. Matching the definition keeps the comparison fair; mixing in other pay makes an offer look stronger than the data supports.

You can switch between making an offer and checking one you received. The arithmetic is the same; only the wording of the result changes.

The optional current pay field lets you see where a candidate sits against the same published points.

How should you read the result?

Treat it as public evidence about where the offer falls among wages for the mapped occupation, not as a verdict. The percentiles describe everyone in that occupation and area, not experience levels, and the mapping may be loose for some roles. Read the role page caveats before relying on the placement.

Results appear on screen without an email. A PDF report is optional and asks for a work email.

If the placement surprises you, candidate conversations and the role specifics usually explain why.

What inputs does the offer checker need?

It needs a role, a pay basis and the offer amount. Location is optional and defaults to national figures. Mode is either making an offer or checking one received. Current pay is optional. The role you choose decides which mapped occupation, and therefore which published percentiles, the comparison uses.

If the role you want is missing, choose the closest one and read its mapping note before trusting the placement.
