Which published points make up the posting range?
The range runs from the 25th percentile to the 75th percentile published for the mapped occupation in your chosen area, with the median shown between them. That span is the middle half of reported wages. The tool displays the source and the mapping on screen so anyone reviewing the posting can check it.
The tool does no forecasting and adds no premium. It shows the published points as they are, in the pay basis you select.
Leaving location blank uses national figures. Picking a metro or state uses that area where figures are published.
Why use the middle half rather than the full spread?
The middle half is a defensible starting point for a posting because it reflects where most reported wages fall, without the extremes at either end. It is not a market quote. Your actual range may sit higher or lower depending on duties, scarcity and what candidates tell you during the search.
Overtime, shift pay, discretionary bonus, per diem and relocation are not in the range. If your offer includes them, describe them separately in the posting.
Where pay transparency rules apply, check your own legal guidance on what the posted range must represent.
How should you present the range in a posting?
State the base range, the pay basis and what else is offered, such as shift differentials or per diem, as separate items. Candidates trust postings that separate base pay from other pay. Keep the source sheet with your records so you can explain how the range was set.
The range appears on screen with no email needed. An optional PDF range sheet asks for a work email.
Review the role page caveats first. A loose mapping makes the range a weaker guide.
What inputs does the posting range tool need?
It needs a role and a pay basis, with location optional. The role decides the mapped occupation. The location decides which published area figures apply, falling back to national when left blank. No other inputs change the result, so two people entering the same choices will always see the same range.
That consistency is what makes the range defensible when a manager or auditor asks how it was set.

Questions
Is the posting range a salary recommendation?
No. It shows the published 25th to 75th percentile for the mapped occupation. Your range should also reflect duties and market feedback.
Does the range include shift pay or per diem?
No. Those are excluded and should be listed separately in the posting.
Can I share the range with my team?
Yes. Use the share link, or request the optional PDF range sheet with a work email.
