What can you compare with this tool?
You can place up to three role and area combinations on one shared axis: three roles in one metro, one role in three metros or any mix. Each slot uses the wage percentiles published for its mapped occupation and area. The tool lines them up without blending, averaging or adjusting the figures.
Choose one pay basis for all slots, hourly or annual, so the comparison uses the same unit throughout.
Slots with no area use national figures. Empty slots are ignored.
When is a side by side comparison useful?
It helps when you are deciding where to locate a role, whether two titles sit at similar published pay, or how a relocation might change a candidate's frame of reference. Seeing the published points together makes differences visible quickly, while the role pages explain the mapping behind each line.
Comparisons are only as close as the mappings. Two data center titles mapped to the same occupation will show the same figures, even if the real roles differ.
When that happens, the difference must come from duties and scarcity, not from the published data.
How should you share or save a comparison?
Use the copy share link to send the exact comparison to a colleague; it opens with the same slots filled. If you want a formatted file, the optional PDF asks for a work email. On screen results never need an email, and the published figures are also on each role page.
Keep a note of the release shown on the comparison when you save it, so later readers know which data was used.
If a comparison drives a decision, read each role page caveat before relying on it.
What inputs does the comparison need?
Each of the three slots takes a role and an optional area, and one pay basis applies to all slots. Only the first slot is required. The role chosen in each slot decides the mapped occupation, and the area decides which published figures appear, defaulting to national when no area is picked.
Changing the pay basis switches every slot at once, so the axis stays consistent.

Questions
Can I compare one role across three metros?
Yes. Choose the same role in each slot and a different area for each.
Does the comparison average the figures?
No. Each slot shows its own published percentiles on a shared axis.
Why do two different titles show the same pay?
They map to the same federal occupation. The role pages explain each mapping.
