Traveling Journeyman Electrician (Per Diem) for AI / HPC high-density and liquid cooling builds
Data Center Headhunters recruits critical facilities, data center operations, construction and delivery, commissioning, power and cooling, and executive talent for colocation, hyperscale and enterprise sites. We research the market, contact working people and qualify a shortlist for your opening. No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.
On AI and HPC builds the electrician is working around heavier loads and water-cooled hardware, so you need a traveler who respects the differences from a conventional hall.
This is what we do all day: recruit data center professionals.
No postings. No stacks of resumes. No chasing. You interview a short list.
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

What does this hire really come down to?
High-density rows draw far more current per cabinet than conventional rows, which changes the electrical work itself: larger busway or heavier cable, tighter phase balancing, more branch circuits per row and less room to work. Ask whether the traveler worked on dense rows, what size feeds they pulled and how they dealt with heat in cable trays.
A person who has pulled thousands of ordinary rack circuits has real skill, but it is a different skill from terminating heavy conductors in crowded space. Liquid cooling adds boundaries. Electricians do not usually pipe the coolant, but they work next to manifolds, coolant distribution units and leak detection. Ask what they were told about water near energized gear, who owned the leak sensors and what they would do on seeing a drip. Mechanical trades own the piping, and the electrician should know not to touch it. Also check commissioning handoffs: power often comes before cooling is proven, and a traveler should know what is live and what is not.
What do we check before you see anyone?
Ask for the heaviest feeders or busway they installed, described by equipment, and how they managed termination space and torque. What they know of cooling distribution units and manifolds, and what they were told about working near them. Their method for phase balance and labeling across dense rows, and who checked it.

- Licensing and qualification. Confirm journeyman licenses by state, and ask what energized tasks the employer qualified them for under NFPA 70E.
Where do we find these candidates?
- We search among journeymen who have worked in data halls and large industrial facilities with heavy feeders, and among electricians from hospital and semiconductor builds where water and power sit close together.
- Traveling electricians from conventional hyperscale work are another pool, and you should decide whether to teach them density specifics.
Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?
- Assuming conventional hall experience covers dense row terminations.
- Not telling electricians which cooling systems are filled and which are dry.
- Letting the electrician decide on mechanical clearances without the mechanical lead.
Your search in 3 steps
- State the density
Tell us the feeder and busway types and how cooling reaches the row.
- Probe the boundary
We ask candidates what they did near water and who they asked.
- Agree the handoff
We clarify where electrical work stops and where the mechanical team takes over.
What to settle before arrival
Tell travelers whether the hall will have coolant in the pipes when they arrive, since that changes how they stage tools and protect equipment. Describe how leak alarms are handled and who responds. Explain the termination torque rules and who verifies them, because heavier lugs leave less margin for a loose connection. Candidates who have worked on dense rows will ask these questions themselves, and the questions they ask are often a better screen than the answers they give.
Ask how they have dealt with heat during long pulls in crowded trays, and whether anyone measured conductor temperature or checked bend radius on heavy cable. Travelers who can describe the physical limits of the cable they handled usually respect the margins that dense rows leave, and that respect is hard to teach quickly.

Questions
What shortlist timing is realistic for high-density work?
We cannot promise a number, because few travelers have worked dense rows and many are committed. A clear description of feeders and cooling helps us screen. We will report honestly on how the pool looks.
Will they receive counteroffers?
Possibly, since experienced travelers on AI builds are valuable to their employers. We ask what they want next and whether it differs from where they are. We tell you what we hear.
Do they relocate for these builds?
Travelers usually move for the length of the project rather than permanently. We discuss the duration and lodging before introducing anyone. Long programs attract more interest.
How does per diem work?
Terms depend on your project and any agreement, so we ask early. Travelers on large programs compare lodging, schedule and days off. Tell us your schedule so we can screen accordingly.
How do we judge fit for a liquid cooled hall?
Ask what they would do if they saw coolant near an energized panel. A good answer is to stop, report and keep clear. Respect for the mechanical boundary matters as much as skill.
Should we pay a premium for travelers with dense-row experience?
Pay is your decision, but candidates with real dense-row work will compare your offer against similar builds, so tell us your range early. We can also advise whether training a conventional-hall traveler would serve you better. Written terms are agreed before any introduction.
