Electrical Superintendent for Hyperscale campus builds (multi-building, phased)
Data Center Headhunters recruits critical facilities, data center operations, construction and delivery, commissioning, power and cooling, and executive talent for colocation, hyperscale and enterprise sites. We research the market, contact working people and qualify a shortlist for your opening. No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.
On a phased campus the electrical superintendent is judged by what building three inherits from building one. You need someone who can run today's switchgear set while the next hall is still a slab.
This is what we do all day: recruit data center professionals.
No postings. No stacks of resumes. No chasing. You interview a short list.
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

What does this hire really come down to?
The remit on a multi-building campus is wider than one hall. This superintendent owns the sequence of medium voltage energization, the shared duct banks and the temporary power that serves later phases, and decides when a foreman's crew moves from one building to the next.
Decision authority sits with the field: crew allocation, lookahead, and refusing a handoff when terminations are not ready. Phasing creates a problem single-building work does not. Early halls go live while neighbors are still under construction, so the superintendent has to protect energized equipment from the noise, dust and stray tool traffic of a site that never stops. Ask who signed off on each boundary.
Adjacent levels differ in scope. A general electrical foreman runs a crew inside one area. A superintendent on this campus coordinates several foremen across buildings. A general superintendent holds the whole site and the owner's schedule above that. Hire for the level that matches who currently answers the owner's questions.
What do we check before you see anyone?
Ask them to walk the energization order on a campus they worked, including which utility or substation milestone gated each building. Ask how repeated halls were standardized, and what they changed when the second hall exposed a problem with the first.

- Ask who held switching and lockout authority between phases. A superintendent who cannot explain the boundary between construction-owned and owner-operated systems has not worked a truly phased site.
Where do we find these candidates?
The strongest pool is superintendents and general foremen from electrical contractors that deliver repeated hall designs across several buildings, plus field leaders from general contractors who self-perform or tightly manage the electrical scope. People from large industrial or utility-scale substation work can transfer if they have handled medium voltage terminations and commissioning handoffs.

- A person from single-building colocation work is a reasonable stretch only if they have managed several foremen at once.
Which hiring mistakes should you avoid?
Do not hire for generator or switchgear familiarity alone and ignore multi-foreman coordination. The campus scale breaks people who were strong on a single hall. Do not treat the title as proof of campus scope. Ask how many buildings were active under their direction at once, not how many they touched over a career.

- Skipping the commissioning conversation. Treating it as someone else's problem costs time at every turnover.
Your search in 3 steps
- Define the campus rhythm
We start with how many buildings run in parallel, who owns shared infrastructure, and where the superintendent hands off to a general superintendent.
- Separate foreman from superintendent
We screen out strong foremen who have never been accountable for several crews, and note who needs a bigger bench behind them.
- Check phase protection practice, then report
Candidates explain how they shielded live buildings from construction next door. You receive each person with their campus scope and the one risk we see, so your interview time goes to judgment.
What changes building to building
The second hall exposes the first hall's decisions. Ask for the list of changes field crews wanted and who carried it back to the design team.

Questions
How fast can we see a shortlist for a campus electrical superintendent?
It depends on how clearly you can describe the phasing and who holds switching authority. Once those are settled we can screen against them, and we will tell you plainly if the scope is narrowing the pool. We do not promise a date before we have heard the campus rhythm.
What happens if a candidate takes a counteroffer?
Campus roles are held by people who often feel loyal to a build in progress, so we raise the question early. We ask what would keep them where they are and whether your phase plan answers it. If it does not, we say so before you invest interview time.
Will this person need to relocate to the campus?
Many campuses sit away from large cities, so we ask about relocation and family constraints at the first conversation. Some people will commute or rotate instead, and we tell you which arrangement each one wants. Your lodging and move support will shape who applies.
How do travel and per diem work for a long campus build?
Per diem terms are set by you and the individual, and a multi-year campus often favors a person who settles locally. We clarify rotation, lodging and any return trips before you meet anyone. Surprises in this area end more offers than salary does.
Can a superintendent from a single data hall handle a campus?
Sometimes, if they have already coordinated multiple foremen and carried a schedule across areas. We test that specifically instead of assuming it. If the gap is real we will tell you and suggest a stronger fit.
Who pays when a campus electrical hire is made?
You do, under the terms in your agreement and the approved wording on this page. We will explain how they apply to a superintendent seat, including salary and bonus questions, before you commit.
